LPU Violence LIVE: Tensions have escalated at Lovely Professional University in Phagwara, Punjab, after students protested over an alleged sexual assault claim involving a female student.The protest turned violent, with reports of large numbers of students gathering on campus, damage to university property, fires and a blockade of the Jalandhar-Phagwara stretch of NH-44. Around 2,000 students were reported to have joined the protest. Several police personnel were injured and vehicles were damaged during clashes.The allegation itself remains under investigation. Police have registered an FIR against an unidentified person and constituted a Special Investigation Team to examine the claim, including CCTV footage and other evidence. At the same time, LPU has denied that the alleged sexual assault occurred and described the claims circulating on social media as false and fabricated.Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has directed the state police leadership to look into the situation.
